Look: Anastomosis 2018 Health Summit

Anastomosis 2018: United for Health stood for a multi-perspective, inter-disciplinary approach to healthcare improvement. Gone are the days when dealing with health systems was the sole purview of doctors and allied professionals. As the summit showed, everyone –from architects to entrepreneurs, filmmakers to musicians– can have a direct and significant impact towards better health.

I had the distinct pleasure of being part of the organizing committee for Anastomosis 2018: United for Health, held last August 4 to 5 at the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health.

As the acting (and then official) head of the Programs Committee, I was running ragged. I had no experience in organizing an event of this type and scale. But we all pulled through. We had incredibly brilliant and understanding speakers, judges, guests and exhibitors.

Thank you to Innovation Management and Business Association for giving me the opportunity to grow both my skill set and my LinkedIn network (contact me!).

I got the opportunity to listen to fellow youth enthusiastically create and pitch health-related ideas.

I also got to see these four inspiring women (and my fellow organizers) in action. From L-R: Event head Jean Lim, Dr. Beverly Ho, Billie Puyat-Murga, Programs Committee Jude Lo, Logistics/Exhibitors Denden Mercado, Dr. Kristine Magtubo, me, and Dr. Iris Isip-Tan.
Anastomosis Day 2 (16)
We received great feedback on the event, though there were some mishaps in time management (people went a bit hungry). But overall, the event was successful in bringing people together for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Among the truly awesome people I invited and met was Dir. Mike, who made a film featuring the first Filipino lead with a hearing impairment. Try to catch “Dinig Sana Kita/If I Knew What You Said” (2009). I don’t have a photo with the others I invited, but many thanks still to Ms. Maiden, Ms. Sherry, Zeke, Mr. Francis, and Mr. Noel.
